Disco Balls + Taxidermy - Older Travel Trailer gets a Major Makeover !
When you get a call from one of the most fun humans you’ve ever talked to asking for you to renovate their inherited camper in the Sacramento area, YOU SAY YES! We had such a blast working with these clients to create our favorite (I know I always say it, but I also always mean it!!) build to date! They came as a referral from a family who bought one of our other campers at the beginning of the year. When we finished with the Dreamy Neutral Palomino in Reno, NV…we headed over to California and knocked out this job for them!
They gave us some general guidelines and I was able to get a feel of their style and what vibe they wanted in this renovation and I have to say…it is a total vibe!!!! Obsessed is an understatement! It was all about textures, and wood tones, and leather, and boho, BUT also making it a space that both children + adults AND men + women could enjoy and love together.
Ready to see some before + afters? ME TOO! Let’s do this!
Living Area
Woooowee what a difference! We made some major changes including ripping out the old sofa. Always check underneath items before you remove them! Because we checked before hand, we knew the water pump was under the sofa and we were going to have to work around it. If you look closely, you can see the box we built under the sofa to accommodate the pump.
We removed all of the carpet and redid the flooring.
Painted the walls Snowbound by Sherwin Williams.
The sofa was from Target. The one we originally picked was from Urban Outfitters, but the lead time was 2 months and we were in a time crunch to get it knocked out, so I found this one and its perfect. It’s a futon type sofa, so it folds out into a bed if someone wanted to sleep there.
The wood stool can be found here.
The throw pillows are from Target and World Market.
For artwork, I buy digital downloads off Etsy, have them printed onto a poster, and then Bo builds a frame for them! I love how this one turned out!
The sconce can be found here.
Dining Area
How perfect did this space turn out?! Every little detail makes such a big difference in this space.
And what did I tell you?! TAXIDERMY + DISCO BALLS!
Starting left and working right…
Originally, there was a pantry cabinet here…it was weird…long and thin and I think one of the only reasons it was there was to hide some pipes. I still don’t understand why they couldn’t have oriented it differently, but regardless, we ripped that baby out and replaced it with this awesome locker style cabinet from IKEA.
All of the taxidermy in the camper belonged to our clients father who passed away earlier in the year. I was so excited to use all of it because #1 - how special is it to always have things around to remind her of her dad. #2 - It’s all TOTALLY rad and exactly what I needed for the space!

I DIY’d the “magic is in you” banner AND the light. DIY coming soon for both!
So our clients had seen this fabric in a school bus renovation they’d seen AND I COULDN’T FIND IT ANYWHERE! And let me tell you…I am the QUEEN of finding things online. I left no stone unturned, but just couldn’t find it anywhere other than on a pillow from Target. I found a few options that looked similar, but they just weren’t right. I had to get resourceful, because I was determined to have this fabric on the seat backs. So, what did I do? I ordered 6 of those pillows and very carefully stripped the pillows down to where I had 6 flat pieces of fabric I could sew together to get enough fabric to cover the cushions. Voila!! It wasn’t ideal, but it worked and turned out great! I used a faux ostrich leather to cover the seats. Pillows are all from Target.
Bo made the table top. We used the mechanism that was already in the camper.
Here’s another angle of the same space and a better shot of the table! It turned out beautifully!
The fur throw on the floor is less than $15! Linked here.
I made the shades. I filmed a quick DIY thats saved in my instagram stories. Click here to see it!
One other MAJOR thing we did in this renovation is PAINT the windows!!! The white windows are a dead giveaway that your space is dated…they just look…old! Because they are!! We did this before we did anything else so we didn’t have to worry about overspray!
Kitchen
What a crazy before + after!
Cabinets are painted Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black.
I painted the stove with appliance epoxy and the knobs and handle with regular ole spray paint. “Cafe” appliances in a camper…YES PLEASE!
The backsplash is peel and stick tiles that can be found here.
Hardware is from amazon and can be found here.
Rug is vintage from Etsy.
Bathroom
Okay so this “before” makes me chuckle a little bit…THIS, my friends, is what happens when you let your husband take the “before” pictures. DO NOT DO THIS.
Regardless, its still a great before and after! Our client had this wallpaper leftover from a project at their new house and it couldn’t have fit the space better!! We only had enough to do the upper portion of the wall, so we had to put board+batten on the lower half.
Mirror is from World Market.
Peace Sign “hook” is from Urban Outfitters. Shower Curtain is also from UO.
Rug and hardware are Amazon. Linked here and here.
Lightning Bolt is linked here.
Bedroom
This isn’t technically the final “after” of the bedroom, but the space just looks so fab here I had to roll with this photo!
We made the headboard out of cedar fence slats. Its such a statement piece! The night stands were topped with butcher block after these photos were taken.
Pillows are World Market, Target, and Hobby Lobby. Bedding is Target.
Well there she is! What do you think? We had the most fun doing this build! I truly enjoyed sourcing and planning every detail. Typically when we finish a renovation, I’ve gotten my fill and am ready for a new family to get to enjoy it…not this one! I MISS this thing! I wish we could have taken it with us!

Cheers Y’all!
