5 Ways to Keep Bugs Away!

One thing that will ruin a camping trip faster than anything is when you start getting eaten alive by bugs! I have tried EVERYTHING. I’m just one of those people who they love to find. Everyone around me can not have a single bite and I’ll have 30. So whats a girl to do when she’s desperate and covered in at least 100 bites?? Ask Instagram! My followers had the best tips and tricks which I have now had time to try out and see which worked for me and which didn’t. Hopefully some or most of these tips and products will work for you too!

As soon as I put this on, I recognized the scent. Apparently my mom used this on me when I was little…who would have thought Avon would come through for me 25 years later!? I am here to tell you that THIS STUFF WORKS! I literally haven’t had a single bite since I started using this. It has sunscreen too (SPF 30) which is a HUGE plus for me. It doesn’t leave your skin oily or greasy…it rubs in like a sunscreen would and puts an invisible forcefield around you telling all those bugs to stay away! You can even find it on Amazon linked here. They also have an array of other products like sprays and wipes…I will likely buy all of them at some point because I’m officially a believer!

2. Fan

While I prefer a big box fan (just because of the power they put out), I opted to go with a smaller personal fan that can sit right next to me and is battery operated so I can use it when I’m not right next to an outlet. This is the one I got and we’ve had this one before that is also battery powered. Both work great!

3. Citronella Candles

Its embarrassing how many of these we will have burning at our campsite. I always have one right underneath me and then a bunch just scattered around to really put out that “stay away” vibe to all of the bugs. I buy “cute” citronella candles occasionally, but we almost always have one (or two!) of these bad boys around. 3 wicks all the way! Click here.

Okay so I’ll admit I haven’t tried this one, but it was recommended repeatedly…enough that I thought it should be mentioned on a my “short list”. It claims to repel bugs in a 15x15 area. They have different sizes and types. I was warned that it does contain carcinogens and after looking into it, I decided I’d go another route. If nothing else is working though, this may be a good option for you. Linked here.

5. Screenhouse

So I don’t have a photo of one because I don’t personally have one. I don’t love the look of them and haven’t felt like I really needed it…however, if none of these options work for you, it may be the ONLY option. If I did get one, you know I’d have to make sure it looked good…I think I’d pick either this one or this one.

Honorable Mentions:

Hempz, NoNatz, Essential Oils, Lemongrass Plants, Staying Inside (lol).

Knowing from experience how bad it can be when bugs are biting and won’t stop…from the bottom of my heart I truly hope at least one of these items work for you. Heres to outdoor parties and camping trips without being the only one stuck inside!

Cheers and Happy Camping!
